Mountain Lake

Watercolor by Wm. J. Carpenter

Architect/Artist Wm. J. Carpenter created two similar paintings of this scene, probably during the 1930s.  The location of the mountain scene is unknown, as is the date and place of painting.  The one shown here was among the paintings that son Edward cared for over the years, but he never framed or provided any information about it. The other is in the collection of another family member.  Neither is signed, nor titled, but one has a notation on the back believed to have been written by his son Clarence: “Loch Lomond, Scotland”.

There is no record of Mr. Carpenter ever having visited Scotland, so his interest in this subject is unknown.  Anyone with information about a similar painting, or the locale is requested to leave a comment below.  You do not need to register and your email address will be protected

The paintings are 12 3/4 X 8 3/4 inches, painted on illustration board.
