Some interesting background information on the restoration of the Mansions on Fifth was published byPittsburgh’s Our Region Business group on their web site last week.

The interview with Richard Pearson and his team reported on the status of their renovation and preservation of the 1906 Carpenter & Crocker designed mansions of Willis McCook and his daughter Bessie Reed.  The hotel is now open and the entire complex is expected to be in full operation by this fall.

The fact that it has been possible to bring the building up to modern building code requirements one hundred years later speaks well for the capability of architect Wm. J. Carpenter AIA, the principal designer.  The many historically significant architectural features have resulted in the buildings being listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
